I have been running LanguagebyLaura.com on a full-time basis for the past two years, and for several years prior to that on a part-time basis. Throughout that time, my website has been a consistently valuable marketing tool. I am passionate about translation, languages, creative writing and literature, and have developed my business and online presence over the past years in these areas.
About the new site
For the second anniversary of running LanguagebyLaura.com full-time, I decided it was time to splash out on a new website. This site has existed in a number of different versions over the past years, but this time I opted for a custom designed theme just for me, to ensure the finished result was perfect for my needs. I'm very happy with the end product, from the improved design, to the streamlined layout and the new features and content.
There are a number of new and improved features on this version of the site, which I hope visitors and regular readers will enjoy:
Book Reviews - The Book Review section has been expanded and reviews will become a regular feature on the site. I have greatly enjoyed reviewing books on translation, languages, linguistics, writing and business, as well as fiction and poetry in translations and am looking forward to continuing this on a more regular basis. I will continue to accept submissions for review. Subscribe to the blog to be notified of new reviews.
Resources for Translators - Inspired by many others in the industry who regularly share knowledge and best practice, I have decided to offer a variety of resources for translators. Both downloadable resources and useful external links are included.
Still to come
I plan to develop the 'Resources' section over time, developing more free resources and adding to the directory of external resources. I also plan to offer premium resources, with a minimal charge to cover their development, such as booklets, interactive training courses and presentations. I am also planning to make book reviews a regular feature, so the 'Reviews' section will continue to expand. Subscribe to the blog via email or RSS to be notified of new content.
In terms of the blog, I greatly enjoyed my recent series of interviews with influential translators. I would like to feature more interviews going forward, as well as continuing to post on translation and creative writing, languages and linguistics, world literature, events, business and the Internet.
About the development
My website runs on WordPress and the Genesis Framework. I have some technical knowledge, so I implement all content and maintain my site myself. I have worked with a talented Genesis developer over at LlamaPress, who has created a custom Genesis Child Theme for LanguagebyLaura.com. The theme is built in accordance with all modern web standards, it is responsive, mobile first, fully accessible and translation ready. To get your own, talk to LlamaPress! 🙂
I would love to know what you think of my new site. If you have any suggestions or comments, feel free to let me know in the comments below or get in touch by clicking here. Thank you for reading, and I hope you enjoy the new site and improved features.
